It’s Golden Globes weekend, and as some of Hollywood’s most famous actors and actresses come together to celebrate the awards for the best in film and television, we were excited to see how many of them truly embrace wellness—both on set and pre-awards. Here, wellness tips from a few of this year’s nominees!
Connie Britton is nominated for best performance by an actress in a limited series or a motion picture made for television, in Dirty John. She’s no stranger to using her voice—as a star of the ABC series Nashville as the strong-willed country star Rayna—and this trait is something she has been strengthening in her own life. “I stand up for myself much more now,” she said in an interview. She’s a big fan of practicing a 30-minute meditation in the mornings to get clarity before her day starts. For breakfast she fuels with oats and replenishes after a workout with a green smoothie. Britton is all about integrating the mind, body, and spirit, for herself and her son and tries to get in a walk or run outside as much as possible.

Emma Stone is nominated for best performance by an actress in a supporting role in a motion picture in The Favourite. She is also no stranger to the topic of mental health and first opened up about her personal struggle with anxiety and panic attacks in August 2018 in an interview with Jennifer Lawrence . She said that doing improv in her community theater helped her break away from the grip of anxiety, as well as seeing a therapist, meditating, and asking for support from family and friends if she feels alone.
Jim Carrey is a two-time Golden Globe winner and is nominated this year for best performance by an actor in Kidding. He is known for being hilarious but maybe less known for his spirituality and love of Eckhart Tolle, the author of The Power of Now and a spiritual guru. In a Global Alliance for Transformation Entertainment meeting, he said that he always felt like he was living two different lives: a comedian in one room and someone else in the other. But then he had an awakening when he read a quote from Buddha that said, “All spirituality is about relieving suffering,” and realized, “that’s what I’m doing in the other room.”

Glenn Close is nominated for best performance by an actress in a motion picture in The Wife. She also played Alex Forrest in the 1978 film Fatal Attraction. She said in an interview she was surprised no one brought up that her character Alex may have had a mental health disorder. Close is now an advocate for mental health and co-founded Bring Change to Mind with her sister in 2010 “to let those that might feel marginalized or silenced by stigma become part of a group and accepted,” which she said, “will save lives.” Sharing her story and speaking out about mental health is a key part of her personal wellness as she’s healing herself and supporting others on their journey.
Nicole Kidman is nominated for best performance by an actress in a motion picture in Destroyer. She’s also all about her favorite essential oils—eucalyptus, lavender, bergamot, and jasmine. “I use aromatherapy in my everyday life,” she said in an interview (especially if she’s feeling sick). Being on the road and on set requires long hours and a lot of sleep. Kidman makes sure to get her zzz’s by making it a priority, and when she’s jet-lagged she uses Sleepio, a sleep improvement app.

Kristen Bell is nominated for best performance by an actress in a television series, musical, or comedy, in The Good Place. She is also popular for her role in Frozen and Forgetting Sarah Marshall. In 2016 she went public about her struggle with depression and anxiety in an open letter and interview with Off Camera. Her husband Dax Shepard, now sober for 14 years, encouraged her to talk about it to help others. In an Instagram story Q&A, she said her favorite ways to decrease anxiety are, “CBD from @lordjones, getting outside, naming 10 things I love for every one thing I don’t, hugging my girls, my husband and my dog, doing something calm and nice for a friend, cooking, gardening and meditating.”
Yvonne Strahovski is nominated for best performance by an actress in a supporting role in a series, limited series, or motion picture for her role in The Handmaid’s Tale. She recently gave birth to her first child, but she still makes it a priority to get outside as much as she can. Her ultimate wellness advice is spending time in nature. One thing she loves to do is jump in the car and start a road trip (she’s driven across the United States!) stopping along the way to swim, hike, or just take in the scenery.
